TNT’s gritty win: A testament  to resilience

The TNT Tropang Giga’s title repeat as Governors’ Cup champions was a hard-fought victory that tested the team’s mettle.

The series against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel was a grueling battle of wills, with both teams leaving it all on the court. TNT’s triumph in Game 6 was a testament to their resilience and determination, as they overcame Ginebra’s aggressive small-ball strategy and clutch performances.

“Everything happens for a reason. I’m filled with gratitude. Our pre-game talk was about whose gonna play harder? Who wants it more? Is it the team that fights for its life, or a team that fights for significance?” said coach Chot Reyes, emphasizing the intensity and mental toughness required to clinch the title.

For Jojo Lastimosa, who transitioned from coach last year to team manager this time around, the emotional rollercoaster of the series was palpable.

“Pakiramdam ko, mas mahirap ito kaysa last year. Although I was coaching last year, I felt that when you’re on the floor, may control ka sa mga nangyayari. And now, that I’m behind, I don’t have control. So, it’s kind of different. So I got emotional when I knew we were going to win,” he said.

Key to TNT’s victory was the stellar performance of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who dominated the game with 31 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

Jayson Castro also played a crucial role, leading the team’s offense in the final quarter.
