DepEd appoints 47 new officials

The Department of Education (DepEd) welcomed 47 new third-level officials, with Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara administering the oath-taking ceremony.

Among these new officials are 22 newly appointed Schools Division Superintendents (SDS) and 25 Assistant Schools Division Superintendents (ASDS) from various regions across the country.

“Please accept my heartfelt congratulations to all of you. I’m confident that all of you will be instruments of positive change in your communities. I’m sure all of you know how crucial the role you will be playing in shaping our youth and hopefully involving our communities more in education,” Secretary Angara stated.

Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development Wilfredo Cabral noted that appointing longtime officers-in-charge (OIC) in the field offices is one of Secretary Angara’s priorities since he took over the leadership of the Department of Education in July.

“There were employees who waited 10 years to be promoted, others five years. So, we have this culture of OIC in DepEd and it’s one of the issues that the Secretary is currently addressing,” Usec. Cabral shared.

Moreover, Secretary Angara emphasized that education is a shared responsibility of the nation, highlighting the contributions of everyone, including those outside the department.

“Education is everyone’s business, not just the Department of Education; it’s the business of families, communities, local governments, and local legislators,” Sec. Angara noted.

“Let’s have that kind of bayanihan spirit which is unique to Filipinos. Let’s use it in our education sector,” he concluded.
