Survey: Families victimized by crime rise in Sept.

Filipino families who were victimized by common crimes increased to 6.1% in September 2024, according to the latest Social Weather Station survey.

The survey said that the 6.1 percent of families reported to be victimized by any of the common crimes (pickpocketing or robbery of personal property, break-ins, carnapping, and physical violence) within the past six months.

This is 2.3 points above the 3.8% in June 2024 and the highest since the 8.1% in September 2023, the survey said.

At the same time, families victimized by cybercrimes rose sharply from 3.7% in June 2024 to a new record-high 7.2% in September 2024.

The September 2024 survey also found 56% of Filipino adults fearful of burglary, hardly changing from 55% in June 2024. It found that 48% were fearful of walking the streets at night, barely changing from 50% in June 2024.

It also found that 41% noticed many drug addicts in the neighborhood, 5 points down from 46% in June 2024.
