NHA enforces moratorium on payments for storm-hit homeowners

The National Housing Authority (NHA) is now implementing a monthlong moratorium on housing amortization and lease payments to all of its beneficiaries nationwide amid the impact of severe tropical storm “Kristine.”

NHA General manager Joeben Tai said the moratorium will be automatically applied to beneficiaries throughout the country from November 1 to 30. Payment of amortization and lease shall resume on December 1.

He said delinquency or additional interest charges during the moratorium period this November will not be imposed. Any penalties and interest charges incurred before November 1 shall resume on December 1.

“This policy measure is intended to offer relief and ease affected families’ financial obligations for a month as typhoon ‘Kristine’ extensively ravaged different parts of the country,” Tai said in a statement.

Beneficiaries need not apply for the moratorium, the NHA said. Aside from its commitment to provide shelter programs, the agency is also dedicated to ensuring that vulnerable communities could recover and improve their living conditions amid calamities.
