Malampaya achieves 23 years of zero-incident

Prime Energy Resources Development BV, operator of the Malampaya Offshore Gas Project (Service Contract 38), announced 23 years of goal zero operations—meaning zero fatalities, serious injuries or environmental incidents—at its onshore gas plant in Batangas province.

It said the milestone reinforces the plant’s vital role in providing reliable energy to millions of Filipino homes and businesses, with safety and operational excellence being key to delivering 20 percent of Luzon’s power needs incident-free for over two decades.

“Achieving 23 years of goal zero at the Malampaya onshore gas plant reflects our dedication to safety and to ensuring energy security for the Filipino people,” said Donnabel Kuizon-Cruz, president and CEO of Prime Energy.

“This isn’t just about meeting a target—it’s about making safety a way of life. With the continued safe operation of Malampaya, we ensure a reliable gas supply to power plants while enhancing national energy security,” she said.

Kuizon-Cruz said that “every aspect of the Malampaya operation involves extraordinary feats of engineering, and I am incredibly proud of our team for executing these safely. Our success lies not just in operational results but in making safety our top priority, as safety and performance go hand in hand.”

She said Prime Energy follows stringent safety protocols, from toolbox talks to observation cards, to safeguard its workforce and the communities it serves.

This approach has bolstered energy supply for millions of Filipino homes and businesses, while contractor companies in the regions where Prime Energy operates have adopted these practices, contributing to higher safety standards across the industry.

The goal zero milestone is further strengthened by the collaboration of Prime Energy’s SC38 consortium partners—UC38 LLC, PNOC Exploration Corporation, and Prime Oil and Gas, Inc.—alongside the support of the Department of Energy (DOE).

“Prime Energy, together with our SC 38 partners is dedicated to providing clean, reliable energy that helps keep electricity prices stable for Filipino consumers,” said Kuizon-Cruz.

“Our long-term commitment to the Philippines is clear: to responsibly harness our natural resources and continue supporting the Department of Energy’s initiatives to develop indigenous oil and gas resources, ensuring energy security and sustainability for the future.”

Prime Energy is scheduled drill two new wells next year under Project Sinagtala, further securing the Philippines’ energy future.
