Marcos meets Filipino community in Laos, bares plans for ASEAN meetings

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday evening met with the Filipino community in Laos before participating in the successive 44th and 45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits.

The President was joined by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, among other members of the Philippine delegation. Around 400 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) welcomed him during his first visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR).

“My participation and that of the Philippines in the ASEAN meetings is precisely to find ways to cooperate with partners to better meet the challenges to forge a better future for our beloved Philippines,” Mr. Marcos said in his address.

“During this visit, I will also attend the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. I will meet potential investors, businesspeople, and encourage them to explore the many promising economic opportunities that we have for them in the Philippines,” he added.

The President also thanked the Filipino community in Laos for their contributions, praising their professionalism, which has helped pave the way for development in the nation.

“Our country has become one of the most dynamic and best-performing economies in Asia. You can be assured that my administration will continue to work hard to sustain this upward trajectory,” Marcos concluded his speech.
