Lawyer and public servant Karlo Nograles formally launched his bid for Davao City mayor on Tuesday after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC).
Nograles, who was working as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), offered himself as a qualified alternative to the reigning Duterte dynasty in Davao City.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte earlier submitted his COC for Davao City mayor. He reportedly planned on withdrawing his candidacy to pursue a senatorial bid, but this did not happen when the filing period closed.
Nograles previously served as Cabinet Secretary of Duterte during his presidency from 2018 to 2022, before assuming the chairmanship of CSC.
Prior to that, he worked as Davao City first district representative from 2010 to 2018.
