National Heroes’ Day serves as an annual holiday which commemorates the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes who have played an integral role in fighting for the country’s freedom and independence at the cost of their own lives.

GomBurZa (2023)
Starring Dante Rivero, Cedrick Juan, and Enchong Deeas the titular priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, respectively, the film explores the chain of events that led to the harrowing and unjust execution of the innocent priests, which served as an important moment to the country’s eventual journey to freedom.
Bayaning Third World (2000)
Bayaning Third World by Mike de Leon is a mockumentary film which follows two filmmakers who discuss how they should create a film about the renowned hero Jose Rizal, leading them to investigate the hero’s life through recreating scenes with individuals who were part of his life.
Heneral Luna (2015)
Serving as one of the highly acclaimed historical films in recent years, Heneral Luna follows the story of Antonio Luna, a foul-mouthed but capable general played by John Arcilla, and his time during the early years of the Philippine-American War.
Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018)
Following the success of Heneral Luna, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral continues the story set during the Philippine-American War, focusing its lens on Gregorio del Pilar, who is played by Paolo Avelino, and his eventual death during the Battle of Tirad Pass.
Quezon’s Game (2018)
President Manuel L. Quezon is the focus of Matthew Rosen’s Quezon’s Game which follows his plan to shelter German and Austrian Jews refugees in the country as they left Nazi Germany during the time before World War II. This was followed by the release of a documentary series called The Last Manilaners: A Quezon’s Game Documentary, which showcases the stories of the Jews who found a new life for themselves in the country.
