More than 20 international flights scheduled for Thursday were suspended, due to severe weather conditions caused by Super Typhoon ‘Carina,’ which brings the total number of flight cancellations to 148, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
The cancellations include flights to and from Taipei operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Cebu Pacific (CEB), Eva Air, and China Airlines. Additionally, flights to and from Quanzhouo operated by Xiamen Air and Philippine Airlines (PAL) have also been suspended.
Moreover, flights to and from Denpasar, Bangkok, Narita, Hong Kong, Incheon, Nagoya, Singapore, Dubai, and Haneda have been affected.
PAL Express, CEB, and CebGo have collectively suspended over 120 domestic flights, impacting routes to and from Basco, Tuguegarao, Davao, Cagayan, Cauayan, Bacolod, Cebu, Dumaguete, Puerto Princesa, Butuan, Caticlan, Zamboanga, General Santos, Iloilo, Dipolog, Laoag, Daraga, Roxas, Legazpi, Tacloban, Busuanga, Siargao, and Tagbilaran.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has deployed Malasakit Health Care Unit personnel to provide breakfast meals to 20 passengers, who remained at the Laguindingan Airport terminal building due to flight cancellations caused by adverse weather in Manila.
There are also reports that affected passengers are hoping to be accommodated as the first on the waitlist for early morning flights to Manila.
In addition, Tacloban Airport had six flight cancellations due to bad weather conditions in Manila, while Siargao Airport had two flight suspensions.
Furthermore, clearing operations for debris brought by floods are underway at Sangley Airport after the floods subsided at the runway.
Romblon Airport did not have any cancellations, but experienced flight delays while airport operations were suspended in Plaridel, Bulacan due to stagnant floodwater at the apron and taxiway.
