The state weather bureau said it was monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs) that could develop into tropical cyclones within the Philippine area of responsibility.
As of 8 a.m. on Friday, the first LPA was spotted 225 kilometers west of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, over the West Philippine Sea.
It might develop into a tropical cyclone to be named “Butchoy” while moving away from the Philippine landmass, PAGASA said.
The second LPA was located 840 km east of Eastern Visayas and may also form into a tropical cyclone while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea. Should it develop into a tropical depression, it would be named “Carina,” the state weather bureau said.
