The Department of Transportation said keeping the supply chains flowing through accessible ports across the archipelago will support various industries and ensure inclusive growth for Filipinos.

Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said seaports must keep the supply chains flowing as part of the thrust to enhance mobility and connectivity.

“Our seaports should be able to fully support the shipping, fishing, trade, agriculture, and tourism industries,” Bautista said in a statement.

He stressed that modernizing ports should not only entail improving facilities but also ensuring the efficient and faster turnaround of vessels.

“This efficiency eventually leads to lower logistics costs, opportunities for tourism, economic sustainability, and inclusive growth,” Bautista said.

Recognized as one of the top performing government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), the PPA remitted P5.06 billion to the government as cash dividends or over 50 percent increase of the agency’s 2022 remittance.

“There’s more that needs to be done over the next 50 years. You need to raise your standards – exceed the expectations of travelers; do better than before; go global,” he said.
