The House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations ensures continued funding for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s legacy projects as soon as it begins the discussion on the Palace’s proposed P6.325 trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2025.
“We in Congress will ensure the continuation of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s legacy projects–the legacy specialty hospitals, legacy on food security and legacy housing for the poor,” Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, the panel head, stated.
“We will also ensure that vital sectors like education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services receive adequate funding to improve the quality of life of all Filipinos,” he added.
Co’s appropriations committee is the lead panel in the annual deliberations on the NEP.
The NEP is the basis for the House’s filing of the General Appropriations Bill (GAB), or the proposed national budget.
Co said the main goal of his committee is “to craft a budget that truly serves the people.”
“We are committed to ensure that the 2025 budget addresses the essential needs of our citizens, promotes sustainable development, and drives our nation towards progress and prosperity,” he said.
He said the House leadership led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez “is fully prepared to receive the approved 2025 [NEP ].”
He added “the NEP will undergo rigorous scrutiny to ensure that every peso allocated is judiciously spent and aligned with our national priorities.”
“We will meticulously examine the NEP to guarantee that it reflects the aspirations and needs of our people…Our dedication to this process underscores our commitment to a transparent, accountable, and people-centric approach to governance,” he added.
