NAIA Terminal 3 schedules another round of electrical upgrades this week

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced on Wednesday a new schedule of maintenance activities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 to upgrade its electrical system and ensure uninterrupted operations, especially during peak hours.

MIAA general manager Eric Jose Ines assured air travelers that the next round of maintenance works for the electrical systems upgrade have been carefully planned.

In this next phase, Ines stated that the upgrade works would proceed from June 19 to 21. He said it would have minimal to no impact on passenger and flight operations.

Ines added that the activities have been timed to take place after the last flight, away from peak operating hours.

These maintenance activities would include functionality tests and safety integrations into the current system, as well as termination procedures across eight different electrical substations in NAIA Terminal 3.

Ines further reassured stakeholders that temporary power would be supplied to areas under maintenance work by gensets.

“The ongoing works will not affect critical systems that are essential for the continuous processing of passengers and flights,” said the airport chief.

Last month, the airport management successfully replaced deteriorated medium-voltage switchgear components across eight electrical substations within Terminal 3.

MIAA’s generator sets provided power to the terminal, prioritizing critical equipment and facilities to ensure continuous passenger processing and uninterrupted flight operations.

However, there were noticeable issues with lack of lighting in certain areas of the terminal, such as the curbsides, hallways, and roadways.

The management has instructed MIAA Engineering to address this, as these areas should have been powered up by the generator sets.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time,” Ines said.
