Suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo is willing to undergo a DNA test, but only if her recognized birth mother — her family’s former helper — surfaces.
Stephen David, the mayor’s legal counsel, was asked in an interview with dzBB if Guo was willing to undergo a DNA test with Wen Yi Lin.
Wen is a Chinese national suspected of being the real mother of Guo.
The mayor earlier said she was a love child of her father with their helper Amelia, who left her when she was still a child.
“There’s no problem with undergoing a DNA test if that helper comes out,” David said.
The Philippine Statistics Authority earlier disclosed they have no birth records of Guo’s parents.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian earlier challenged Guo to undergo DNA testing with Wen Yi Lin to prove her nationality.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, for her part, released documents showing Wen Yi Lin as an incorporator in Guo’s businesses.
In a letter to the Senate dated June 5, 2024, Guo denied being a protector of POGO.
She also bewailed accusations she was a Chinese national and a “spy.”
“I wish you would listen to me before you judge me. I am a Filipino. And just like you, I was elected with honor and dignity,” she said.
Hontiveros, however, said possible cases to be filed against Guo became more “solid” after yesterday’s executive session in the Senate.
“We have yet to see stronger evidence that she is a Filipino citizen. So it remains, and our question has become more solid — is she is a Filipino or not?”
“I am more confident that the case we will file against her is airtight and solid. It may also be filed by different executive (agencies) of our government,” the senator added.
The Office of the Ombudsman earlier ordered the preventive suspension of Guo for not more than six months following a complaint filed by the Department of Interior and Local Government for grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, and gross neglect of duty.
Ombudsman Samuel Martires said there were “sufficient grounds to preventively suspend” Guo and two other town officials “considering that there is strong evidence showing their guilt.”
The Ombudsman order included Edwin Ocampo, Bamban’s business permit and licensing officer, and Adenn Sigua, the town’s municipal legal officer.
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos earlier sent a report to the Ombudsman, citing “troubling findings of serious illegal acts which may have severe legal implications.”
The DILG questioned Guo for the issuance of a permit to Hongsheng Gaming Technology Inc. despite the company’s failure to complete the requirements of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. as well as its expired license.
