Fresh from the Jinseo Arigato International Film Festival, Cathy Camarillo’s Chances Are, You and I had a successful red carpet premiere at SM Cinemas on Tuesday. The event was attended by the entire cast, led by Kelvin Miranda and Kira Balinger, who were overwhelmingly supported by their celebrity friends, helping to promote the movie during the premiere night.

Chances Are, You and I is a romantic drama that centers on the lives of two young individuals, Sol (Kelvin) and Gabi (Kira), who meet under unusual circumstances in a hospital. The film beautifully captures the essence of human connection, hope, and the unpredictability of life.

Gabi is portrayed as a bubbly and optimistic person who decorates her hospital room with sticky notes filled with joyful memories and experiences. In contrast, Sol is a stubborn, somewhat brooding character who relies on the flip of a coin to make decisions, rejecting medication as a display of defiance against his illness.

Their paths cross in the hospital, and they soon discover they share the same sickness, leading them to form a unique bond.

The film then takes the audience on a journey to Korea, where Sol reunites with his estranged father, and Gabi confronts her mother, only to walk away upon seeing her. This trip serves as a crucial moment for both characters, allowing them to open up about their dreams—Sol’s aspiration to become a pilot and Gabi’s desire to be a doctor—despite the uncertainty of their future.

Back in the Philippines, the story takes a dramatic turn as Gabi prepares for her brain surgery. Sol is worried about Gabi forgetting him after her surgery. In a touching scene, Gabi reassures Sol, hinting at their potential future together if they survive and recover: “Chances are you and I together, every single day.”

But Gabi meets with an accident and undergoes her surgery earlier than scheduled, resulting in memory loss. In his grief, Sol removes all the sticky notes with memories of him from Gabi’s room and gives them to his best friend for disposal. Unbeknownst to Sol, his best friend returns these notes to Gabi.

The film concludes on a hopeful note four years later when Sol and Gabi meet at their usual hangout spot. In a touching moment, Sol flips his coin and kisses Gabi, suggesting that some connections are meant to withstand the trials of time and memory.

Chances Are, You and I is a beautifully crafted film that showcases the power of love and human connection. Kelvin Miranda and Kira Balinger’s performances are powerful and sincere, making their characters’ struggles and victories feel so real. The story is full of emotions and it reminds us of the brief but valuable moments that shape our lives and relationships.

Chances Are, You and I was written by Ellis Catrina and also stars JinHo Bae, Tart Carlos, Anne Feo, Gian Magdangal, and Al Tanday. Produced by Pocket Media Productions, Inc., Happy Infinite Productions, Inc., and Pocket Media Films, Chances Are, You and I is now showing in more than 100 theaters nationwide.
