Senator Revilla lauds Eddie Garcia Law approval

Film and television actor Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. expressed his delight over the ratification of Republic Act No. 11996, also known as the Eddie Garcia Law. This new legislation aims to protect the welfare of workers in the movie and television industry.

“At last, this bill I proposed and pushed for the welfare of our co-workers in the film and television industry is now a law. I’m thankful to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for enacting this law. I’m overjoyed because we fought long and hard for the passage of this measure. This is a victory for our workers and the industry,” Revilla, who authored the bill said.

“I’ve been saying this since then – ‘I was born into this business where I learned the ropes. I owe my present status to this industry, its workers, and the viewing public. This is one way of me giving back,” Revilla added.

“Manoy Eddie’s death was a national tragedy but it paved the way for awareness and concern to protect the actors and workers in the industry,” Revilla reiterated.

The Eddie Garcia Law assures that film and TV workers will be given protection by employers in their workplace.

The Law also states that the employer will abide by the number of working hours, ample compensation, benefits, like social security, basic necessities, health, safety, working conditions, standards, and insurance for the industry workers.

“Tito Eddie, this is for you and our friends and family in the industry. Thanks for inspiring us to fight for this. This is just the beginning of the uplift of our fellow industry workers, ” Revilla concluded.
