BINI’s ‘Salamin Salamin’ is no witchcraft song

P-pop girl group BINI recently addressed rumors spreading on social media that their hit song “Salamin Salamin” was linked to witchcraft.

Earlier, a religious content creator named Follow Jesus Ministry took to Facebook to criticize the group, accusing the single of promoting “witchcraft” and “worldly music,” urging their followers to be mindful of the music they listen to.

“Let’s choose our music wisely to nurture our souls and to bring us closer to God. Beware sa mga Christian, preachers, pastors, ministers na walang nakikitang mali sa pakikinig ng mga worldly music. ‘Salamin Salamin’ is a witchcraft song. Please wake up, church,” the post read.

Speaking at a press conference, BINI member Jhoanna said they just found out about the issue recently.

“Actually, we are not able to open social media because we are extremely busy. We just found out about that now but we cannot control other people’s minds anymore,” said the group’s leader Jhoanna.

“Actually, I saw that post. It’s funny. We just laugh when people come up with those kinds of stories and theories,” BINI Colet added.

Maloi, on the other hand, called the allegation “fake news”.

“Fake news. ‘Salamin, Salamin’ is not witchcraft. It’s just that the song is just beautiful,” she said.

Despite issues relating to the group, BINI’s success continued to solidify its position as the “nation’s girl group” with projects left and right. In fact, they were recently featured in the US-based lifestyle platform Teen Vogue as one of the must-watch girl groups for 2024.

BINI took the opportunity to thank Teen Vogue for seeing their potential alongside other international girl groups.

“Well, first of all, we would like to say thank you to Teen Vogue and of course, everyone else who made Teen Vogue see that we have the potential to be one of those international girl groups to look out for and we’re very honored,” Mikha stated.

“But at the same time there’s a lot of pressure but we hope to take that pressure and be able to perform well and better and always show our best and perform on more international stages outside of the Philippines,” she continued.

The group is also gearing up for their first-ever solo concert, BINIverse, happening June 28 until 30 at the New Frontier Theater, revealing that they will begin doing rehearsals in June.

“Once June comes, that’s when we’ll start. We’re really going to train the whole day, if we can manage, seven days a week, we will do it. Because this is our first solo concert. So, we want to give our all, our best, especially to the Blooms who really bought and spent effort just to buy their tickets,” shared Jhoanna.

On Wednesday, May 29, the members of BINI were also named as the newest brand ambassadors for the e-commerce platform Shopee.

Shopee’s Regional Marketing Head Huiyan Pan revealed that she is part of BINI’s growing fanbase.

“And I think, you know, I’m definitely a fan of BINI right now. And to be honest, this is the first time I’m seeing them perform live—that’s a whole different experience versus looking at it, you know, on the phone or on, you know, your computer or on TV. You guys were amazing and this makes me even more of a fan,” she said.

Meanwhile, BINI expressed their gratitude towards Shopee for choosing them as its newest endorser.

“We are really, really excited to work with Shopee because we, ourselves, are Shopee users. And we feel proud because Shopee is loved by millions of Filipinos,” the group shared.
