A PARTY-list lawmaker has thanked his “ever-growing number of supporters” in Parañaque as he emerged as the top choice of voters to represent the city’s 2nd district in the upcoming May 2025 elections.
According to the results of the “Boses ng Bayan” survey conducted by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD), 42 percent of Parañaque City’s 2nd district voters named Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan of Bicol Saro party-list group as their No. 1 choice to represent them in Congress if elections were held today.
Yamsuan’s 42 percent was seven-percentage points higher than the 35 percent garnered by Gus Tambunting, the incumbent representative of the district. Former Parañaque Vice Mayor and now councilor Rico Golez got 12 percent. The independent, non-commissioned survey also showed that 11 percent of voters remain undecided.
“Tayo po ay ay nagpapasalamat ng marami sa suporta ng mga kapwa ko taga-Parañaque sa Ikalawang Distrito. Hindi lamang sa araw-araw na lumalaking suporta ninyo kami lubos na nagpapasalamat, kundi maging sa pagkakataon na binibigay ninyo para makapaghatid kami ng tulong at maipakitang posible ang taos-pusong serbisyo sa mga Parañaqueño ng 2nd District (“We are grateful for the support of our fellow Parañaque residents in the 2nd district.(We thank you very much not only for your ever-growing support, but also for the opportunity and trust that you continue to give us to be able to extend assistance and show to you that heart-felt service is possible to Parañaqueños in the 2nd district),” Yamsuan said.
The survey results which showed Yamsuan edging out incumbent officials at this early stage “positions [him] for a potentially decisive victory over his opponents, demonstrating substantial endorsement and strong standing within the district’s voter base,” according to RPMD Executive Director Dr. Paul Martinez, a global affairs analyst.
Conducted from March 18 to March 24 among 1,200 adult respondents, the RPMD voters’ preference survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent and a confidence level of 95 percent.
With Yamsuan as its representative in Congress, Bicol Saro has climbed to 2nd place among the top performing party-list representatives in RPMD’s 1st Quarter Boses ng Bayan survey.
Yamsuan was also named by RPMD as its Outstanding Public Servant for 2023.
Among Yamsuan’s initiatives for Parañaque’s 2nd District are his Extra Rice Program, Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), Sports Facilities Improvement Program and medical missions in the barangays.
While Yamsuan appears to be a new name in Parañaque’s political landscape, he and his family have lived in the city for almost 25 years.
Yamsuan started his career in public service fresh out of college as the political and media affairs officer of the late Senate President Edgardo Angara. He has served not only in Congress as a member of the House of Representatives and as the institution’s deputy secretary general, but also in various positions in the Executive Branch.
He was chief of staff of the late Sen. Tessie Aquino-Oreta, secretary general of the National Unity Party (NUP), a consultant at the Office of the President, and Assistant Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
