Marina Summers makes her Miss Universe dream come true

Drag queen Marina Summers shared that stepping on the Miss Universe stage was a fulfillment of a childhood dream, making it come true when she did the opening number of the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 coronation night.

In a post shared on Instagram on Saturday, May 25, Marina opened up about a lifelong dream fulfilled when she became the first drag queen to open the prestigious pageant.

“The Universe was waiting for me all along,” Marina wrote.

“It’s been such a dream come true to be able to step on the Miss Universe stage since I was a little boy in a small province. I can clearly recall how I used to sneak [into] my room, I would use my mom’s heels, my towel as my hair and blankets as my gown—imagining those were enough for me to strut my little room and scream my name and ‘Philippines!’ in secret,” she continued.

Fast forward to 20 years later, Marina said that she found herself living that very dream—a dream of many Filipino gays whose childhood dreams include pageants and runways.

Clad in a dazzling outfit, she confidently belted out “Amafilipina” and performed together with Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee and this year’s candidates.

“20 or so years later, there I was, doing the exact same thing, but not in secret anymore. On stage. Full glam. Prouder. Braver,” added the Filipina drag artist.

She then thanked the Miss Universe Philippines Organization for allowing her to “heal and celebrate that inner child”, a monumental feat that extends far beyond the drag and LGBTQ+ community.

Marina ended her heartwarming post with a message of encouragement.

“Para sa mga nangarap, gustong mangarap at mga patuloy na nangangarap. Kaya. Kayang-kaya!” she penned.
