Qatari dairy producer Baladna is considering a major investment in the Philippines, following discussions with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at the sidelines of the three-day Qatar Economic Forum.
Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual said the Philippine government is eager to support Baladna’s potential investment.
“The DTI and the Board of Investments are ready to facilitate business-to-business meetings and introductions to potential joint venture partners for Baladna. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture is actively identifying suitable locations for the proposed dairy facilities,” he said.
Baladna is a leading Qatari brand known for its fresh and nutritious dairy products, juices and food items.
The dairy company is actively involved in international partnerships and is willing to share expertise and resources with countries like the Philippines to promote sustainable development goals, said Pascual.
Pascual highlighted the significant demand for dairy products in the Philippines, with imports reaching almost P3 billion.
The government wants to address the high demand while supporting local dairy production.
The government offers regulatory support for clear labeling of fresh milk, UHT milk, and imported milk concentrate. Relevant agencies are reviewing and discussing labeling standards to ensure fair competition and consumer protection.
The DTI, along with the Department of Agriculture (DA), will develop policies that create a fair and balanced environment for all dairy producers in the Philippines.
Pascual expressed optimism about the potential investment and the collaborative efforts to achieve success.
