The Manila International Container Port (MICP) has announced its partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to collaborate in combating drug smuggling across Philippine borders.
MICP District Collector Carmelita Talusan emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing the complex challenges posed by drug smuggling.
“The fight against illegal drugs requires a unified and concerted effort from all enforcement agencies. Through close collaboration and information sharing, we can achieve greater success in intercepting illicit drug shipments,” she said.
Talusan said the Bureau of Customs (BOC) under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio remains steadfast in its mission to prevent the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
Present during the meeting with representatives of PDEA and PCG were officials from the MICP Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, X-Ray Inspection Project, and Law Division.
Meanwhile, the MICP also met officials of leading global logistics provider Schenker Philippines Incorporated to streamline customs processes and enhance efficiency within the logistics sector. Both parties had an open forum to discuss synergies and explore avenues for cooperation in facilitating smoother and more expedient customs clearance procedures.
“Our collaboration with different logistics companies marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance trade facilitation and ensure greater transparency throughout the supply chain,” Talusan said.
