Transport groups willing to acquire more modern PUVs

To address the lack of public utility vehicles (PUVs) caused by the apprehension of colorum vehicles after the consolidation deadline on April 30, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that transport leaders are willing to acquire additional modern jeepneys.

This initiative is part of the DOTr’s intensified operations against colorum vehicles, ensuring commuters have access to safe, secure, and comfortable transportation through modernized PUVs.

“Based on our discussion with the transport leaders, they can supply the seats to meet the need caused by the lost colorums,” Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said.

“In fact, they are willing to invest in modern vehicles. With the modernized vehicles, our passengers will be more comfortable, safe and secure, “ he added.

According to Bautista, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will begin apprehending unconsolidated PUVs starting May 1.

“Because they are colorum [those who failed to consolidate] they will be subjected to apprehension,” he said, adding that the transport agency is also coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in apprehending colorum PUVs.
