Horchata, a traditional Mexican rice-based drink, is making waves in the metro with its sweet, cinnamon-infused flavors. But despite its growing popularity, a dedicated café for that much-needed horchata fix has remained elusive. Until now, that is.
Enter Siesta Horchata Café, the first horchata-centric café in the metro, ready to shake up one’s horchata experience by blending tradition with contemporary flair.
Nestled in the heart of Quezon City, this café promises a unique and refreshing take on the beloved beverage.
Paola Huyong, the young entrepreneur behind Siesta Horchata, found inspiration in the drink as a pandemic-friendly coffee alternative.
“Siesta,” a Spanish word for nap or rest, reflects the café’s ethos of advocating for a welcome respite in a world that glorifies hustle culture and the continuous grind. Huyong’s vision was to create a space where people could slow down, relax, and savor the moment, much like the traditional siesta in Spanish culture.
Siesta Horchata Café also serves as an avenue for local artists to showcase their passion for the arts. The cafe proudly features a dedicated space for artistic collaborations, debuting the works of queer visual artist Carla Norberta.
Carla’s installation delves into the theme of “rest,” highlighting the importance of slowing down and embracing the activity as an important part of personal progress.
