Oil spill from tanker injures multiple riders

A road accident occurred Saturday morning in Pasay City, resulting in several injured motorcycle riders due to an oil spill from a tanker.

The incident happened at around 7 a.m. in front of the Philippine State College of Aeronautics along the southbound lane of Osmena Highway (also known as South Superhighway). This caused heavy traffic on both lanes of the thoroughfare.

Initial reports indicate that the vehicle was transporting coconut oil and was heading towards Sucat, Parañaque City when it crashed into a Skyway pillar. This resulted in the oil spill and later caused injuries to the riders.

Personnel from Skyway and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), as well as private rescue volunteers, immediately responded to the incident, assisted those injured, and towed the truck.

Some of those injured were brought to a nearby medical facility in Villamor Air Base, according to online reports. Witnesses on site posted on social media that it took a while before traffic normalized.

Responders poured sand over the concrete to prevent other motorcycle riders from slipping. The MMDA cleared the area after more than two hours.
