Score another victory for “Eat Bulaga”?
Just nine months after the long-running noontime show starring Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon was eased out of its slot on GMA 7, its replacement, “Tahanang Pinakamasaya,” quietly ended its TV run on Saturday, March 2.
Executives of TAPE Inc., which produced “Eat Bulaga” before an acrimonious split with the “TVJ” trio who subsequently moved to TV5 – with all their co-stars, production crew, and advertisers to boot –have yet to issue a statement on the fate of its lunchtime variety show.
Led by the Jalosjos family, TAPE tapped Isko Moreno, Paolo Contis, Betong, Cassy at Mavy Legaspi to try and replace the void left by Eat Bulaga—to financially disastrous results, reportedly by as much as P800 million.
Showbiz sources said replays of “Tahanang Pinakamasaya” will be aired until March 7, after which a replacement – a show tabloids identified as “TictoClock” – will take its time slot.
TAPE and GMA are also expected to issue a statement today (Monday).
Asked for comment, Tito Sotto – who fought hard to enforce the TVJ group’s right over the “Eat Bulaga” intellectual property rights—said he’d rather not.
“We are not like them,” the former Senate President said.
