Lawmakers to Quiboloy: Show up

Two legislators from Mindanao have stressed the need for Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church leader Apollo Quiboloy to comply with the subpoenas issued against him.

“If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear,” Davao Oriental Rep. Cheeno Miguel Almario told reporters about the case of Quiboloy, who is currently in hiding.

This development has caught the attention of Quiboloy’s friend former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who warned the pastor that he would “get arrested” if he chooses not to comply with these subpoenas.

Almario said he neither had good nor bad things to say about Duterte’s comment.

However, he said he wanted to uphold the notion of transparency in the proceedings.

“The thing is, quite frankly speaking, if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. We just really want to present also–well, not we, but I guess in the nature of our jobs–when we issue subpoenas, when we try to call also guest speakers, resource persons, we also want to hear from their side so that we can have a better understanding on how to move forward with the things we are trying to achieve,” he said.

“There should be a transparent submission of information,” Almario added.

South Cotabato Rep. Peter Miguel offered a similar view in the sense that Quiboloy should ultimately surface.

“It is up to the pastor if he will face it or not. But of course, we know that he is also a national figure, many are waiting. Maybe Pastor Quiboloy also needs to answer,”

The House Committee on Legislative Franchises and the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, have separately issued subpoenas against Quiboloy.

A subpoena is a strong-worded summon–in this case–to a House or Senate hearing.
