Honasan joins group calling for national inter-faith prayer gathering

Former Senator Gringo Honasan has joined the Covenant for the Nation’s call for a national inter-faith prayer gathering.

Earlier, the Covenant for the Nation, a broad and inclusive alliance comprising various religious organizations, former government officials, and concerned citizens, wrote to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and former President Rodrigo Duterte, urging them to lead an interfaith prayer rally.

This is amid the continuing political crisis and several pressing national issues that the country is facing, the group said.

During this time, former Honasan was among those who called for “sobriety” between the two camps as an example of political unity.

Former President Duterte confirmed, through Senator Bong Go, that he is open to the suggestion of leading the inter-faith prayer gathering with President Marcos.

The group in a statement said it is calling for political and religious leaders to gather for the sake of the country and peace.

“Walang ibang interes maliban sa interes ng bayan at kapakanan ng Pilipino at kinabukasan ng ating mga anak,” it added.

The statement was signed by former Honasan, Bishop Dr. Grepor Butch Belgica, M.Div., D.Min.; Bishop Reuben Abante; DG Atty. Jeremiah Belgica; Atty. DDG Eduardo Bringas, CDS; BGen. DDG Carlos Quita, Ret.; Sec. Cong. Mike Defensor; Jireh Bringas; Andy Gonzaga; Dir. Glendol Badon; Dir. Liezel Vizorde; Baby Nebrida; Jodi Nebrida; Cesar Ola; Cliff Mendoza; and Chairman Greco Belgica, MNSA.

The Covenant for the Nation is comprised of professionals, bishops, pastors, former government officials, and retired personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police. Among the organizations involved in this initiative are the Light House, Lord’s Vineyard, Yeshua Change Agents, Yeshua Men of Covenant, RoC n’ RoL Movement, Community Operations for Public Service Inc., PDDS, and Defenders of Justice.
