Love may make the world go round, but rice is more important.
This was Vice President Sara Duterte’s advice to all rice-loving Filipinos on Valentine’s Day.

“Roses are red, violets are nice, but nothing compares to the way you spice up my rice!” she said in a caption to her Tiktok video.
“For me, rice is more important than love. If you are in love but have nothing to buy rice, it’s like eating kare-kare without rice…Ganyan ang Valentine’s Day—bigas bago pag-ibig,” she added.
The Philippines is one of the largest rice consuming countries in the world. Filipinos consumed about 16 million metric tons of rice last year.
