Presidential peace adviser Carlito Galvez on Friday urged the public to turn away from any action that would destabilize the country.
In a statement, Galvez explained the call to secede Mindanao from the rest of the country would lead to instability and disorder.
“Let us therefore turn away from any call or movement that aims to destabilize our beloved nation, especially to separate Mindanao from the rest of the country,” Galvez said.
“Mindanao has already shed its image as a land of volatility, violence, and armed struggle,” he added.
The move to separate Mindanao would go against the present administration’s agenda of pushing “unity” across the country.
Galvez also slammed the call, citing it as “anathema” to the Philippine Constitution.
He further asked the public to continue supporting the administration’s push for peace, reconciliation, and unity.
“The dividends of peace are upon us and are now being felt by everyone,” he continued.
Galvez’s remarks came after former President Rodrigo Duterte bared a plan for a separate and independent Mindanao during a recent press conference.
