“My country. Amid all the politicking, this is what happens to our public information,” he said.

Padilla has called on the media industry to help combat fake news.

On Monday, CNN Philippines announced it is discontinuing operations on all media platforms effective Wednesday, Jan. 31.

In posts on its social media accounts, CNN thanked its viewers, partners, and staff over the past nine years.

CNN Philippines also stopped the deployment of news teams to their areas of coverage since Monday, Jan. 29.

On the same day, the media firm also announced it is discontinuing operations on all media platforms effective Wednesday, Jan. 31.

It ended its nine years of delivering English-language news. Nine Media Corp., the broadcaster’s parent company, suffered losses of P5 billion ($88.5 million) since it began broadcasting in March 2015.
