Hanoi—President Marcos thanked the Filipino community in Vietnam, emphasizing their importance in boosting bilateral relations between the Philippines and their host country.
The President acknowledged the contributions of the Filipino community in Vietnam, stating that their presence serves as evidence of the strong bond between the two countries.
“That’s why I’m extremely grateful to all of you. It makes my job easier because of the good reputation you are building through your hard work and perseverance here in Vietnam,” President Marcos told the Filipino community in Tagalog on Monday.
Mr. Marcos commended the overseas Filipino Workers for earning admiration worldwide, suggesting that it wouldn’t be surprising if Vietnamese leaders also praised their outstanding performance.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, he assured that his administration, in collaboration with his Cabinet members, remains committed to addressing poverty in the country, particularly amid the backdrop of a strengthening economy.
Vietnam hosts approximately 7,000 OFWs, whose remittances amount to a substantial $13,683,000 in 2022.
The formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Vietnam were established on July 12, 1976, and have since endured for 47 years. The two nations elevated their relations to a strategic partnership in 2015.
President Marcos’ two-day visit to Vietnam marks his first state visit of the year, with the primary objective of reinforcing not only the bilateral ties between the Philippines and Vietnam but also enhancing maritime cooperation, trade, and investment relations between the two countries.
