The local government of Balanga City is aiming to boost its agriculture program for 2024 with various initiatives.
The City Agriculture Office said 25 city barangay councilors who also lead their respective barangay committees on agriculture, have already outlined programs for agriculture and fishery during a recent meeting.
The City Agriculture Office also said Mayor Francis Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gozon will continue prioritizing agriculture programs including strengthening local cooperatives.
One such program is the “Kaanib Program,” where idle lands in 25 barangays in the city are converted into vegetable gardens.
The leadership tandem of Garcia and Venzon-Gozon has been encouraging community vegetable farming.
Garcia and Venzon-Gozon said they want to recognize the contribution of local farmers to community development and inspire residents to go into farming.
