136 groups seek Comelec approval as party-list bets in May 2025 polls

One hundred thirty-six organizations are seeking Commission on Elections (Comelec) approval as a party-list entry in the May 2025 elections.

This developed as the Comelec is still evaluating the applications for accreditation of more than 50 other party-list groups eyeing next year’s political exercise.

In a statement, the Comelec said at least 136 existing party-list groups have already filed their applications to participate in the 2025 midterm polls.

Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said the list was not yet final as it will still undergo scrutiny by the poll body.

The Comelec said there were more than 50 new petitioner-applicants for the party-list, but the poll said that only organizations that have existed for at least one year can qualify.

In the past, party-list wannabes were rejected for failure to prove they had been in existence at least one year before the election.
