How she found fun in designing and curating a holiday clothing collection
At 39 and with a career overflowing with accolades, multihyphenate Dimples Romana finally dives into the world of fashion design. Her sparkling and frilly creation for the holiday collection, a collaboration with local brand Get Spotted, proves she’s a multi-talented force to be reckoned with.
“Get Spotted is owned by a fellow mom named MG, based in Bacolod. She’s been doing a lot of other collaborations with celebrities,” Dimples introduced.
When the business owner reached out to Dimples online, the actress-host-entrepreneur did her due diligence before giving her trust. Upon discovery that the business owner has a good track record and industry presence, Dimples trusted her gut and gave the partnership a go. Their virtual interactions also have a role in Dimples’ decision.
“Very rare,” Dimples described the deal. She described how motherhood and the desire to provide value to each other as business entities bonded her and her business partner. “There is still humanity, there is still hope,” Dimples declared, sharing that all agreements pertaining to the partnership are just verbal.
“As you know, over time, I have been careful about who I deal business with. Over time, I learned a lot,” Dimples opened up. “I’m just making sure that everything I put out will be very intentional. I want to make sure I enjoy what I’m doing and the ones I’m working with have values and advocacies aligned with mine.”
Dimples as a designer
“Some of the dresses here, I already designed long before the holidays. We wanted it to be buffet-friendly. This is for the kind of woman who wants to dress up but can eat without worrying about bulging body areas,” Dimples happily reported. While she embraces her own imperfections and is for body positivity, Dimples still keeps in mind other women whose confidence levels may be boosted by flattering designs for their body types.
“I love movement,” Dimples described as the basis for her designs. “Even with my character Daniela Mondragon [Kadenang Ginto, 2018-2020], I wanted to wear something that is moving. For me, you see a woman’s beauty by how her clothes move along with the way she moves.”
Dimples further explained with eyes lighting up from radiating passion, “There’s a different effect or charm when you see a woman’s dress flowing with the wind, creating different kinds of silhouettes. [The effect] Really makes someone pretty.”
“Very intentional for me,” Dimples described how she came up with the designs. “The whole collection would cater to different body types. Our sizes are from 1 to 4X. Our plus sizes are also available online via getspottedshop.com.”
Dimples announced, “These things are readily available not just for lean women but also for those who have voluptuous bodies.” The weight issue is something Dimples finds relatable as she also experiences a yo-yo pattern in weight management.
With age comes confidence, it seems. Dimples laughingly quipped, “I feel pretty no matter what my size is, to be honest. I have become very forgiving of my body. [After all] I have three children.”
Further describing what she has in store for interested buyers, Dimples shared that she took other women into consideration while designing. “This collection is for the woman who wants to eat. Most of the designs are loose on the belly area, and show a little bit of skin but not too much, still your prerogative. We have sequined ones which you can pair with blazers.”
“
Our collection pieces can be worn during summer, ones you can constantly and repeatedly mix and match with others,” Dimples added. “The colors are not all loud and Christmas-y. We have red, mustard, green but we also have muted colors like pale yellow, beige, and cream.” The collection got us curious about what the busy collaborator’s personal fashion preferences are.
Self and style awareness
“I’m a chameleon. I evolve through time. I feel like it’s not so bad after all!,” Dimples replied when asked to describe her signature style in fashion. “While it’s nice to have a personal style, there’s nothing wrong if you change your mind from time to time. Today, I can be rugged, tomorrow I can be plain or fun. At the end of the day, it boils down to your personal preferences.”
Dimples revealed, “I realized that my personal style is based upon my emotions.” She explained how the clothes she wears can be a contrast to what she is feeling. “When I am sad, that’s when you’ll see me wearing fun colors,” she elaborated. “Whenever I feel I need comfort, you’ll see me in thicker clothes like sweatshirts.”
For Dimples, this collaboration to design and curate a collection with another woman is an empowering and definite win-win situation. As she gets to help a rising business widen its reach and network, Dimples sees the partnership as an opportunity to offer her large following something new and exciting.
“I believe in God’s timing. Not everything has to happen right away,” Dimples said, going back to why there was a delay in launching the deal. Her longevity in the industry has surely equipped her with so much wisdom.
“I am at that point in my life where I treat my time the way I treat my money. For me, time is currency,” Dimples confidently shared. “In businesses I get into, I make sure that they will not only be beneficial to me monetarily but also in terms of my relationships.” She specified two things we cannot purchase to have – respect from others and their love.
