The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the Philippine Coast Guard have started implementing a program to improve the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS), which serves as an alternative mode of transportation for commuters.
MMDA and PCG officials led by Public Safety Office chief Crisanto Saruca Jr. and Coast Guard Rear Admiral Hostillo Arturo Cornelio committed to enhancing sea transport and revitalizing the Pasig River.
“We are thankful to the PCG for this collaboration. We will have knowledge, assets, and resource-sharing to provide better and improved river ferry service for our commuters as an alternative mode of transportation,” said Saruca.
Under the memorandum of agreement the two agencies recently signed, the MMDA shall handle all administrative and office matters of the ferry service.
It shall also utilize its rescue boats for disaster-related activities pursuant to its public safety mandate for Metro Manila commuters.
The Coast Guard will provide personnel to man the ferry terminals and its boats to intensify maritime security and maritime safety for the riding public, especially this holiday season.
“PCG is steadfast in our commitment to deploy safety and security officers on board the ferry boats along the Pasig River. This initiative underscores our unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers,” said Cornelio.
