Marcos extends Acorda’s term as PNP chief until March 2024

President Marcos extended the service of Philippine National Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. until March 31, 2024.

The Palace said the President made the decision in recognition of Acorda’s successful leadership since assuming the position in April.

Mr. Marcos conveyed the extension through a letter addressed to Acorda, a copy of which was transmitted to the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. on Dec. 1, 2023.

The PNP is an attached agency of the Interior department.

Mr. Marcos appointed Acorda as the 29th head of the country’s police force during a change of command ceremony at Camp Crame on April 24, 2023.

Acorda reached the compulsory retirement age of 56 for PNP personnel on Dec. 3, 2023.

The Palace noted that under Acorda’s leadership, the PNP focused on critical areas for enhancing the police force’s effectiveness, including personnel morale and welfare, community engagement, integrity enhancement, ICT development, and honest law enforcement operations.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Sambisig Class of 1991, Acorda previously served as the director of the PNP Directorate for Intelligence before assuming the role of PNP Chief.
