Marcos: Focus efforts against global warming

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called on the public to work together to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change.

The President made the call as country marks the 16th Annual Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week.

In a video message, the Chief Executive said the effects of global warming and climate change were more evident now, citing various weather phenomena.

“The impact of global warming and climate change is becoming more evident in our present time. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and a decline in biodiversity are stark reminders of the need to quickly respond to this immediate environmental concern,” Marcos said.

He said the Climate Change Commission (CCC) must communicate thisyear’s theme of unity and cooperation “for a more resilient and adaptable nation.”

“We all have a role to play in this mission. So we must work together, take a stance in support of our planet. Let us be involved in creating solutions to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change,” the President stressed.

He added that his administration’s goal is to build a “New Philippines that is strong in facing challenges, peaceful and safe for the citizens, and full of hope for a better future.”

Under Republic Act No. 9729 or the Climate Change Act of 2009, the President serves as the chairperson of the CCC.

President Marcos is set to participate in the 28th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties in the United Arab Emirates this month.

He is expected to reiterate the administration’s message during his inaugural address on the commitment of developed countries to support developing countries like the Philippines vulnerable to climate change.
