The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to release this week a new renewal schedule for expired driver’s licenses.

“We will make that formal announcement within the week and we are just getting the numbers,” LTO head Vigor Mendoza II told reporters.

“We are no longer able to cater for the day-to-day consumption because we have a backlog of about 800,000 from May to June and we only have 1.1 million or 1.2 million cards left,” he added.

Mendoza said the agency will focus on the current backlog and the expired license for November will be catered by May next year.

Driver’s licenses that expired from May 1 to May 31, 2023, are eligible for renewal from November 1 to November 30, 2023, while licenses that expired from June 1 to June 30, 2023, can be renewed from December 1 to December 31, 2023.

Expired licenses from July 1 and July 31, 2023, will be renewed from January 1 to January 31, 2024, and licenses that expired in August 2023 can be renewed from February 1 to February 29, 2024.

For driver’s licenses that expired on September 1 and September 30, 2023, the schedule is from March 1 to March 31, 2024.

Earlier, a Quezon City court issued a writ of preliminary injunction against LTO’s delivery of plastic driver’s licenses.

AllCard Inc. earlier filed a complaint against   Banner Plastic Card Inc., which submitted a bid of P219 million inclusive of taxes for procuring the license cards, higher than the former’s bid of P177 million.

Out of the 5.2 million plastic driver’s license cards, the supplier already delivered 1.9 million cards. To address the backlog, Mendoza said the agency is planning to bid 4.6 million of plastic driver’s license cards under the 2024 national budget.
