Arroyo, other lawmakers laud Speaker’s high survey ratings

Legislators led by former President and now Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lauded Speaker Martin Romualdez on his high trust and performance ratings.

“I would like to congratulate House Speaker and Lakas President Martin Romualdez on the recent OCTA Research Report reflecting a +6 percent increase in Trust Rating to 60 percent,” Arroyo said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The third quarter survey of OCTA Research showed Romualdez’s satisfaction rating rose by six points from 55 percent in July to 61 percent in September, while his trust ratings improved from 54 percent to 60 percent during the same period.

House Majority Leader and Zamboanga Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe, for his part, said the consistently high performance ratings of Romualdez are the fruit of his collaborative and unifying leadership focused on uplifting the welfare of all Filipinos.

“The latest result of the OCTA poll survey is proof of Speaker Romualdez’s solid and effective leadership that allowed the House of the People to ensure the swift passage of people-centered and pro-poor legislation,” Dalipe said.

“These ratings are a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the hardworking members of the House with Speaker Romualdez serving as an example to all. The House of Representatives has become the true embodiment of the House of the People under Speaker Romualdez,” he added.

Maguindanao del Norte Rep. Bai Dimple Mastura also commended the Speaker for “successfully building more goodwill with the Filipino people.”

“The Speaker neither demanded nor was gifted with good will. He worked hard – quietly and consistently – and the people acknowledged him for it. Moving forward, having this dynamic will bode well for the House,” Mastura said.

Earlier, Senior Deputy Speaker and Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzales said the high performance rating of the House leadership reflected people’s sentiments on pressing issues, including the need to realign confidential and intelligence funds (CIFs) to security agencies.

“The OCTA Research 2023 third quarter survey was conducted when the controversy around the House decision to reallocate CIFs from civilian offices to agencies having to do with national security was brewing,” he said.

Gonzales said the survey results showed Filipinos were aware of the issue due to its wide coverage in mainstream and social media.

“They agreed with the House decision as reflected in the significant increase in the levels of their trust and their approval of the performance of our leader, Speaker Romualdez,” he said.
