The City of Taguig has recently organized its fifth Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) Orientation with 520 beneficiaries.
The program encourages part-time employment for school-related expenses and instills responsibility and self-reliance, the local government said.
Mayor Laarni Cayetano attended the orientation and urged students to appreciate their role as SPES beneficiaries and maximize the opportunity it brings. She emphasizes the importance of seizing opportunities and gaining a unique perspective on the world after studying and working in an office.
SPES has been conducted twice in 2023, with 3,000 beneficiaries expected to participate in the series of orientations.
The program aims to provide students with a better understanding of the world after studying and to help them seize opportunities in the workplace.
The local government started implementing the SPES program in 2011. To be eligible for the program, an applicant should be 15-25 years old.
City officials said with the implementation of SPES in Taguig, students and out-of-school youth are given the opportunity to gain work experience and at the same time earn extra income during vacation.
After finishing their time for SPES and when school season starts again, the out-of-school youths who participated can use their earnings to help their parents enroll them back in school.
