Actress and TV host Kim Chiu is portraying a distinctly unconventional and bold character in the suspense thriller Linlang, which began streaming on Prime Video last night.
Speaking to Manila Standard Entertainment during the series’ press preview, the 33-year-old star admitted that it took almost two months for her to commit to the project.
“It’s a new Kim that you’re going to see in this series. I was nervous because it’s something unique, so I thought about it for almost two months before finally accepting the role,” she said, adding that the decision carried the weight of expectation due to its global availability in 240 territories.
“Kahit kayo nga nagulat at nainis sa kanya di ba?,” she said alluding to her role in the series that also stars Paulo Avelino and JM de Guzman.
Produced by ABS-CBN and Dreamscape, Linlang revolves around boxer-turned-seaman Victor “Bangis” Lualhati (Paulo), who embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind his wife Juliana’s (Kim) infidelity. As Victor delves deeper, he realizes there’s more at play than just a cheating spouse and discovers that the woman he loved and married is not who she seems to be.
As he uncovers her darkest secrets, he’s forced to confront his own demons and shortcomings, questioning his worth as a man and a husband.
Kim expressed her gratitude for being part of another ABS-CBN and Prime Video collaboration series after Fit Check: Confessions of an Ukay Queen. She shared, “Thanks for the trust, and thank you to Prime for providing us a platform to showcase this series that we’ve worked hard on. I’m very excited for it to be seen worldwide.”
Meanwhile, Paulo noted that the role presented a unique challenge for him. He strived to embody the character to the fullest, emphasizing the added complexity of not only being a betrayed husband but also a father in the story.
“It’s different. I tried to embody the role as much as I could. And considering that I’m not just a husband here but also a father, so it made it more substantial for me,” Paulo said.
JM also shared his thoughts on Linlang being his first project under Dreamscape. He said, “I know I’ll learn a lot, and it’s an opportunity to show what I can do with the material they offer.”
Joining Kim, Paulo, and JM in this new Prime Video series are veteran actresses Maricel Soriano, Ruby Ruiz, and Kaila Estrada.
Completing the stellar cast are Jaime Fabregas, Raymond Bagatsing, Albie Casiño, Jake Ejercito, Heaven Peralejo, Adrian Lindayag, Race Matias, Benj Manalo, Lovely Abella, Frenchie Dy, Ross Pesigan, Hanna Lexie, Juno Advincula, Connie Virtucio, Lotlot Bustamante, Meann Espinosa, Danny Ramos, Bart Guingona, Marc McMahon, Anji Salvacion, and Kice.
