WestMinCom completes disaster training

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) has completed the Joint Ready Reserve Unit CADRE Training for Disaster Response (CTDR) in Zamboanga City.

The CTDR was held at the WestMinCom Grandstand Basement at Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City from September 23 and 30.

Thirty officers and enlisted personnel from the regular and reserve force from the 9th Regional Community Defense Group, 6th Air Force Reserve Center, Naval Reserve Center Western Mindanao, Air Force Liaison Office-Western Mindanao, and Joint Task Force Zamboanga participated in the joint face-to-face lecture and practical exercises.

The training was facilitated by the Philippine Red Cross-Zamboanga City Chapter and the Office of the Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, led by Capt. Edwin Ello.

According to Western Mindanao Command Chief, MGen. Steve Crespillo, the objective of the training is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the regular and reserve forces in responding to possible local hazards.

CADRE training is also an expansion program to increase the capability of forces to execute Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations.

The training included lectures and practical exercises on response to mass casualty incidents, triage and first aid to many injured people, and light search and rescue operations.
