Survey says pilots get highest salary

Aircraft pilots and their associates are earning an average monthly wage of P135,363, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 2022 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS).

This average monthly wage is twice as much as the highest-paying jobs in 2020, which were held by mathematicians, actuaries, and statisticians. Software developers working in Information Service Activities followed the pilots in the ranking with an average wage rate of P70,595 per month.

Four out of the 10 highest-paid occupations were engaged in Insurance, Reinsurance, and Pension Funding except Compulsory Social Security. These occupations were mathematicians and actuaries at P69,654, applications programmers at P58,643, statisticians at P51,607, and accountants (including auditors) at P48,982.

Health workers, specifically specialist medical practitioners and medical doctor/generalist medical practitioners with corresponding salaries of P57,476 and P51,251, both working in Human Health Activities except Public Health Activities, were also included in the top 10.

Other highly paid occupations include production supervisors and general foremen employed in Electricity, Gas, Steam, and Air Conditioning Supply, earning an average of P63,017 per month, and geologists in Mining of Coal and Lignite; Extraction of Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas; and Other Mining and Quarrying being paid an average of P49,059 per month.

The PSA stated that the overall average monthly wage rate of time-rated workers on a full-time basis across 193 monitored occupations in 72 selected industries was P18,423 in 2022, up by 11.7 percent from the average monthly wage rate in 2020 and by 1.7 percent compared to their average monthly wage rate in 2018.

The median basic pay of time-rated workers on a full-time basis across all industries also increased to P14,588 per month in 2022, higher by 6.9 percent compared to the P13,646 median basic pay recorded in 2020.

The 2022 OWS covered 16,057 formal establishments employing at least 20 workers nationwide of which wage rates of monitored occupations across selected industries were collected.

Data on median basic pay and median allowance of time-rated workers on a full-time basis were likewise gathered.
