A local e-commerce company said Wednesday it will hire more staff to support its aggressive expansion this year as live selling is expected to further boost the sector.

M-Commerce chief executive Michael Cordoviz said the company plans to hire and onboard another 300 individuals.  The company offers high-paying jobs and career development opportunities through their training program.

“My company will open opportunities to train and assist small businesses in making their products easily available to customers,” Cordoviz said.

“As M-Commerce extends its assistance to MSMEs, it is also creating employment opportunities in the emerging sector of ‘Live Hosting and Live Selling’,” he said.

The company said with hundreds of employees, primarily “Live Event Hosts,” it is establishing itself as a key player in the TikTok market.

Cordoviz expressed optimism on the potential of the Philippines to lead the online retail and live-selling industry in Asia and the world.

“By leveraging the power of platforms like TikTok and empowering MSMEs, M-Commerce is driving the growth of the e-commerce sector in the Philippines and making significant contributions to the country’s economy,” he said.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that the country’s digital economy in 2022 reached P2.08 trillion, contributing 9.4 percent to the gross domestic product. This amount represents an increase of 11 percent from P1.87 trillion in 2021.

The digital economy is composed of digital transactions covering digital-enabling infrastructure, e-commerce and digital media/content.
