In a recent interview, GMA star Kyline Alcantara defended her rumored boyfriend Mavy Legaspi from bashers due to his inclusion as one of the new hosts of the revamped popular noontime variety show Eat Bulaga!.
Critics have compared the new hosts, including Paolo Contis, Betong Sumayao, Buboy Villar, Alexa Miro, and Mavy’s twin, Cassy Legaspi, to the show’s original hosts led by the iconic trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, collectively known as TVJ.
“I believe they’re just doing their job, and they know they cannot replace the original hosts,” said Kyline. “Work is work. They are all just there to work. They have so much respect for TVJ and the gang.
“The show has been a huge part of Filipinos’ lives for the longest time. Not only do they help but entertain. And now, through the new hosts, it is assured to continue. So, I’m really happy with this fact because I’m a fan of Eat Bulaga.!”
One reason why Kyline is defending Mavy is that she knows he has no bad intentions whatsoever.
“For one, I know that one main reason why he accepted the job is that he wants to improve his hosting skills. Definitely, I’m so proud of him. Both of us have high regard for EBs original hosts. In my case, I even experienced being a guest co-host on the show before.”
Interestingly, what advice can she give Mavy amidst all the bashing he currently receives?
“Well, as long as you know your intention and purpose for being on the program, just keep going! As long as you’re not stepping on another person’s toes and you have respect and perfectly know that you’re not going to replace someone, go. You can never replace the originals. They’re already icons.”

She and Mavy have a new show on GMA, the Wattpad series LUV IS: Love at First Read. Asked about the real score between them, Kyline stated: “I can say that what we share right now is a special friendship, a super-duper friendship. We’re taking things slowly. We don’t want to rush things and succumb to peer pressure just because we’re a love team. We want to take things one step at a time!”
After seven years since his last soap opera in 2016, Bakit Manipis ang Ulap?, which aired on TV5, Cesar Montano is back with a drama series. Also airing on the Kapatid Network, the veteran acting stalwart shares the screen with Cristine Reyes and Marco Gumabao in the television remake of the film Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan.
The original movie was headlined by Star for all Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto, Christopher de Leon, and the late Eddie Garcia. Cesar will take on the role of the latter. Other actors who are part of the cast include Mickey Ferriols, Lito Pimentel, and Felix Roco.
Incidentally, the director of the 1983 Viva movie was the late National Artist for Films and Broadcast Arts, Marilou Diaz-Abaya, who collaborated with Cesar in some of his most significant films like Muro-Ami, Bagong Buwan, and Jose Rizal.
