THE Southern Police District (SPD) on Friday announced the arrest of an alleged member of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) wanted for murder and attempted murder in Zamboanga City.
SPD director John Kirby Kraft identified the suspect as Salahuddin Alpin, alias Almad Pantangan Tawasil, 38, a construction worker.
Kraft said a composite team from the SPD, the Zamboanga Police, the Philippine Navy, the Paranaque City Police Station, and the Las Pinas Police Station arrested the suspect at Marina Bay South Shore Project along Jackson Avenue in Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City on Thursday evening.
Seized from the suspect were one .45 caliber pistol with eight bullets in its magazine, one hand grenade, and a Marone Herschel back pack.
The team conducted the joint operation armed with an arrest warrant issued by Judge Gregorio Dela Peña III of the Regional Trial

Kraft said the suspect was an ASG member listed as No. 7 in Periodic Status Report involved in kidnapping and extortion, and had been in hiding for more than 13 years.
“At present, the suspect is working at EBR Construction Company as a construction worker,” the SPD chief said.
The suspect is now under the custody of SPD pending the issuance of commitment order from the court of origin.
