He also said that aside from the security of its constituents, Genave believes that ensuring public safety will also be vital in sustaining the growth of tourism in the region, which is comprised of the country’s premiere destinations including Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

Prior to his post, this PNP Academy Alumni (Patnubay Class of 1995) has served as Director for the BFP Headquarters Support Service and as the Region 4A Director for BFP CALABARZON.

He was also the Director of the National Fire Training Institute, and the Directorate for Comptrollership at the BFP National Headquarters. Under his leadership, he enhanced safety services for the benefit of the Local Government Units (LGUs), its constituents and probably to be reechoed in the entire community of the country.

Asked what would be his “first order of business” as new regional director, Genave emphasized that he shall work hand-in-hand with local BFP officials to harness the quality of disaster response as well as intensify the public about the role of BFP as purveyors of public safety.

Genave divided his plan of action into four major pillars: Capacity building intended mainly for recruitment, promotion and placement of qualified personnel; Physical facilities and equipage focusing on the construction of BFP Regional Office in Cebu and five fire stations in predetermined municipalities; Awareness and skills enhancement for BFP personnel; and Partnership and linkages with government and private entities to create an inclusive community united towards public safety and disaster management.

“The task of providing public safety falls heavy on our shoulders since our region is one of the country’s foremost tourist destinations. Rest assured, with our expertise and dedication, we shall bring our best practices and continue to professionalize disaster response as well as promote public education,” he added. Dennis Abrina
