VARIOUS transport groups on Tuesday urged the Land Transportation Office to stop the operation of the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS), an online platform that caters to almost all transactions and processes, including motor vehicle registration, and driver’s license application and renewal.

Ariel Lim, National Public Transport Coalition national convener and president, said they would file a petition in court to stop the implementation of the LTMS, adding the system could only breed corruption and cause inconvenience to the stakeholders.

“We will be filing a petition for an injunction this month,” he said.

The LTO has yet to comment on this issue as of posting time.

Mounting complaints of slower-than-usual transactions have hounded the LTMS with drivers having difficulties accessing the online portal and in several LTO offices where poor internet connectivity remains a challenge.

Lim said they have already sent a demand letter to the LTO, copy furnished to the Office of the President, Senate, and House of Representatives, for the suspension of the operation of the LTMS.

The process under the LTMS is very slow, he said, adding: “That is the reason why the LTO is extending the validity of car registration by one to two months.”

The LTMS has created more problems for public transport operators and drivers, “the majority of whom don’t have the technical know-how or competence to use a computer,” he said.
