Actress Yassi Pressman portrays distinctive dual roles as Kuring and Daphne in the series Kurdapya, which premiered on March 18 on TV5.
Inspired by Pablo S. Gomez’s popular classic, the series follows the journey of two long-lost twins who reunite in a strange accident after living vastly different lives.
The estranged twins come from different backgrounds: Kuring who is a provincial girl obsessed with vlogging and Daphne a seemingly perfect socialite but an underappreciated daughter. By fate, the two will meet and a plan to switch with each other hatches, and thus goes the funny yet endearing story of the two.
As the story unfolds, viewers will witness the funny misadventures of Kuring and Daphne as they try to escape their current realities by switching identities, navigating through life’s challenges, and coming face-to-face with their past.
The remake is helmed by director Easy Ferrer, his first comedy series project with both TV5 and VIVA TV. The original movie was headlined by the biggest names in classic Pinoy showbiz, like Gloria Romero, Ramon Revilla Sr., Ric Rodrigo, Eddy Garcia, and Comedy King Dolphy.
Exploring the themes of family, love, and self-discovery, Kurdapya also stars Marco Gumabao as Carlos, Kuring’s childhood friend and the apple of her eye; Nikko Natividad as the nouveau rich and “jojologin” Tadeo, who was handpicked by Daphne’s father to be her suitor; Ryza Cenon as the gold-digging girlfriend of Daphne’s father; Katya Santos as Kuring’s strict and ambitious aunt; Candy Pangilinan as the funny ex-con mom of Kuring and Daphne; and Lander Vera-Perez as the twins’ father.
This generation’s version of Kurdapya sees both new and familiar faces from the VAA family of artists. Fresh from his string of movies launched earlier this year including Spellbound (with Bela Padilla), Martyr or Murderer, and Baby Boy, Baby Girl (with Kylie Verzosa), Marco Gumabao is part of the cast as Kuring’s love interest, Carlos.
On the flip side, comedic actor Nikko Natividad plays Tadeo, the nouveau rich but jologs suitor of Daphne. The two actors bring kilig to the twins’ respective love lives. Since we’re seeing two sides of Yassi, trouble will also double for her in this series. Led by Ryza Cenon as the young and beautiful gold digger girlfriend of the twins’ father, and by Katya Santos who plays Kuring’s depraved aunt, together they will be the main antagonists in each of the twins’ lives. Together with them are Akihiro Blanco who plays Daphne’s cousin plotting against the family business, and Jela Cuenca as Katya’s daughter who is equally as menacing as her mother.
Fresh faces are also joining the cast, touted as the next generation of Viva’s stars, these young actors are set to debut their acting chops in the comedy series and add to the fun and complications of Kuring’s and Daphne’s lives.
The love team of Heart Ryan and Tomas Rodriguez provide additional kilig to viewers. Coming from their debut film this year, Girlfriend Na Pwede Na, they now take on the role of Kuring’s probinsiyana BFF Trina and Daphne’s cousin Enzo who eventually falls for Trina. Both Heart and Tomas started out with P-Pop groups under Viva. Heart is known as a Tiktok celebrity with over four million followers and is now expanding her acting capabilities while Tomas is an active member of P-Pop group, Alamat. Other new gen young stars to join are the next teen heartthrobs to watch out for. Collectively known as RTurn, Keagan de Jesus, Charles Law, and Kurt Delos Reyes endear and entertain viewers as a trio of waiters and cooks that serve at Kuring and Daphne’s usual meeting place.
Kurdapya promises to be a fun-filled family show for everyone to enjoy. The series airs on TV5 every Saturday at 6:00 p.m., with catchup episodes on Sari Sari channel every Sunday 8:00 p.m.
