More oil companies rolled back the price of their liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by P3.50 per kilo or P38.50 for every 11-kilo tank starting March 1.
Petroleum Philippines and Isla LPG which markets the Solane brand also cut their LPG prices to reflect the lower contract price of LPG in the world market
“Please be informed that Phoenix LPG Phils., Inc. will decrease the prices of Phoenix Super LPG by P3.50 per kilogram and Auto LPG by P1.95 per liter effective 1201AM of 01 March 2023,” Phoenix said.
Prior to the LPG rollback, household LPG in Metro Manila was estimated to range from P934 to P1,118 per 11-kilo cylinder, according to data from the Department of Energy.
DOE, with support from different LPG associations, was leading a series of information and education campaigns through the conduct of LPG Summits to ensure consumer protection against industry malpractices, including the illegal refilling and under-filling as well as the sale of counterfeit LPG products.
The LPG Summits will focus on promoting consumer awareness on health, safety, security, environmental, and quality standards for the proper use of LPG, LPG pressure vessels, and ancillary equipment.
DOE said the LPG industry has significantly widened its market, but some of its participants are engaging in unfair and unsafe trade practices, impairing consumers and, to a full extent, causing negative externalities to society.
Based on the data from the Bureau of Fire Protection, there were a total of 158,266 fire incidents in the Philippines from 2010 to 2021, in which 1,254 incidents or 0.79% are LPG-related.
DOE said that although small in number, the gravity to properties and lives is enormous. This is the very reason why the government puts safety as the major focus in the business of LPG, the agency said.
An LPG Summit will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from March 2 to 3, 2023, and succeeding LPG Regional summits are already scheduled for Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao Regions.
The Summit will not only provide guidance on the safety of the end consumers on LPG use, including storage and handling but also uphold the right of the consumer to freely choose the trademark or trade name of LPG-filled cylinders they want to purchase.
